Indian Dance, an art form that encompasses the representation of music, song, and drama, pays tribute to Universal divinity and guides one into the realms of artistic bliss. Indian Dance has history that is beyond imagination and excellence that is beyond reach. At Nrityanidhi, we are proud to pursue and proliferate,  Indian Dance.

Principles

Nrityanidhi is highly inspired by the Guru Shishya Parampara and all its wondrous objectives like humility and dedication. The path at Nrityanidhi is based on the principle of discipline while keeping the ultimate objective of love, acceptance and joy in mind. Nrityanidhi functions on the basis of a structured course that trains its students in Kathak and allows them the scope to blossom as holistic artists.

The learning atmosphere exposes them to the significance and splendour of Indian culture. Nrityanidhi expects all its students to earnestly respect art and pursue the same with sincerity, modesty and devotion. These virtues are strengthened each year through significant training sessions, workshops, outdoor dance camps (Natya Sadhna) annual graduation performances (Prayaas) and innovative examinations (Pareeksha).

Students are also encouraged to do their own choreography and thus get an opportunity to exhibit their creative side. The course at Nrityanidhi is designed towards creating artists who are kind, sensitive, respectful and joyful.

Located in two cities of India, Mumbai and Bangalore, Nrityanidhi strictly trains a particular number of Students in each batch or session and restricts the number of admissions into the institute in order to provide personal attention and develop a trustworthy relationship with each student.

Designed Path for a Shishya

The students of Nrityanidhi go through specific training that begins with Kathak and gradually moves towards expansion in spiritual understanding. Nrityanidhi has intelligently broken boundaries of the classical style of Kathak and teaches its students methods of using the style in innovative genres of music without disturbing the splendor of the style. Ideally, a Student starts her training with a short three-month workshop that introduces her to the functioning of the institution. Gradually, she evolves into becoming a regular part of our classes and goes on to appearing for the Pareeksha. Ultimately, over a period of eight to fifteen years, emerges a soulful, holistic artist all set to spread the magnificence of art into the world!

PRAYAAS & PRAANGAN

A Student at Nrityanidhi is not merely attending a Kathak class. A Student is a part of the foundation that is aiming to mould lives while imparting quality training in Kathak and choreography.

Nrityanidhi has a structure and function. Every opportunity is aimed at serving Students to be confident and expansive – as dancers and human beings.

Prayaas, a Graduation Performance; is an Annual Show fully dedicated to the Students. A quality show of a reputed standard for students to get acquainted with the stage, audience, lights, sound, attire and ‘The Nrityanidhi Stage Etiquette’; whilst gradually awakening the artist within themselves.

In 2019, Nrityanidhi took a leap forward, with the launch of another spectacular show and opportunity for it’s students, with “Praangan”. Praangan is an opportunity to perform pure Kathak on Live music, with an ensemble of reputed musicians of India.
Prayaas and Praangan witness such high calibre presentations, even with performers as young as a few months old at the institute.

Planned to perfection, there is a seamless flow of events for the audience to experience. Over a 100 students, including the little ones, as young as 2 year olds, are a part of this extravaganza.

These experiences can be a life-altering for Students. They learn to work on their own make up, grooming, and presentation of themselves. We also see a reflection on the subtler aspects of being – like strength, connecting to their feminine side, getting in tune with their inner self, balancing out when things go wrong, and overcoming nervousness.
Working together with such love, taking care of each other during rehearsals and the performance is also an art that is cultivated and practiced by every shishya.
